Tillmann Höfs (english)
The young Hamburg hornist Tillmann Höfs will be releasing his début CD, entitled “Air”, on the GENUIN label in autumn 2018. The programme brings together works by Vignery, F. Strauss, Salonen, R. Strauss, Widmann and Hindemith. Höfs is the winner of the 2017 German Music Competition: the first time the prize had been awarded to a horn player in 34 years.
Tillmann Höfs grew up in a family of musicians and already learnt trumpet as a very young child. On this instrument, he won the first prize at national level in the competition “Jugend musiziert” and scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the German public service broadcaster NDR, among other awards.
In 2011, he switched to horn and again won the “Jugend musiziert” National Prize along with several special prizes. From 2012 till 2014, Tillmann Höfs was a junior student under Ab Koster at the Andreas-Franke-Akademie of the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Since 2015, he has studied as a regular student at the Berlin University of the Arts with Christian-Friedrich Dallmann on a grant from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. He has received additional musical encouragement and instruction from Christian Lampert, Tobias Heimann, Sebastian Posch, Ozan Çaker, Premysl Vojta and his father, Matthias Höfs.
Tillmann Höfs gained regular orchestral experience in the German Youth Orchestra, the NDR Youth Orchestra and the “junge norddeutsche philharmonie” under conductors such as Christoph Altstaedt, Thomas Hengelbrock, Krzysztof Urbanski, Christoph Eschenbach, Mathias Pintscher and Markus Stenz. As a soloist, he has given concerts with ensembles such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Camerata Hamburg and the Camerata Berlin, playing works by Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Britten and Richard Strauss.
In October 2018, he will give the first performance of a double concerto for horn, trumpet and orchestra by Wolf Kerschek with his father, Matthias Höfs.
